When people think of weddings, they often picture grand venues, long guest lists, and extravagant receptions. But the truth is, not every celebration needs to be big to be beautiful. In fact, some of the most memorable weddings I’ve had the privilege of photographing over the last 30+ years have been small, intimate, and deeply personal.

What Is a Small Wedding?

A small wedding typically includes 20 to 30 guests or fewer. Sometimes just a handful of loved ones. The smallest wedding I ever photographed had just eight people including the bride and groom, and it was absolutely magical. Small weddings strip everything back to what truly matters: love, connection, and meaningful moments.

Sanina Kaur, Director of SK Copy Co, recently enlisted the expertise of Julie King Photography to update her business profile picture. Here she shares her first-hand account of the experience.

It’s not every day that I need my photo-taking professionally, so when I decided I needed a new head and shoulders shot for my business website, I was a bit stumped.

I needed to find a photographer that was a) good, b) reasonably priced and c) local to me.

Yes, I could refer to good old Google, but then I’d be presented with a list of photographers, who may look good on paper but may not necessarily be able to provide me with the professional shots I needed within my budget.

Fortunately for me, I didn’t have to refer to Google because I’d happened to meet Julie King at a recent local networking meeting.

Experienced photographer

I immediately knew from chatting to Julie that she had the experience I was looking for and, having taken a quick peek at her website, would also be able to take the shots that I had in mind too.

So, before I knew it, I’d booked myself in to have my new website photographs taken with Julie at her studio. I instantly knew I’d made the right decision, which was soon confirmed when I asked her if she had any advice about what type of outfit I should wear and she provided me with a really useful comprehensive list of guidance.

Read my mind

On the day of the shoot, everything ran like clockwork. Not only did Julie put me at ease (as I did feel a bit like a duck out of water against the backdrop of the lights and equipment), she instantly knew how to recreate what I had in my mind, on camera. In fact, it was almost as though she could read my mind.

And the results were stunning. My photographs look professional, but not too formal and reflect my creativity, personality and also have the wow factor too. Take a look at some of them for yourself, I couldn’t be any happier with them:
